Freed From Long-Term Addiction To Cigarettes And Marijuana

I have been smoking cigarettes for 23 years and marijuana for 24 years. Even after rededicating my life to God in 2011, I still struggled with those addictions and could not quit  no matter how much I wanted to.

We recently moved to a new town because of my husband’s new job. I knew the Lord was closing the doors to where we used to live because that was where I got marijuana. However, I would still make a three-hour drive back to my old town once a month for more marijuana because I did not know where else to get my supply.

It was only after I read Pastor Joseph Prince’s book, The Power of Right Believing that I learned the real gospel of Christ and had my eyes finally open. I started to eat healthy, was happier, and more active. I even lost weight.

Then, I kept hearing that still small voice in my ear every time I lit up a cigarette. The voice would say, “Get rid of it. You don’t need it anymore, you have Me now.”

I ignored it for a few weeks, but the voice was so persistent that I finally put the cigarette away for good one day. A few days after I quit smoking cigarettes, I would also hear the still, small voice saying the same words whenever I lit up a bowl of marijuana. I finally gave it up as well.

After a month of being clean, I watched Pastor Prince on Trinity Broadcast Network and God really spoke to me through his sermon. God prompted me to get rid of the bucket containing all the pipes, rolling paper, and grinder I use for my marijuana addiction.

I started crying because I was still thinking of taking marijuana every now and then. It was also hard for me to throw the bucket out especially since some of the pipes were expensive. But as I went back to the room to get the bucket, I dropped it on the floor and all the pipes fell out and broke. I was in awe and I told God, “I get it. I am throwing them out now.”

As I emptied out everything in my house that did not glorify the Lord, I kept reading The Power Of Right Believing, and I was glad to be clean for the first time in my life.

I was addicted since I was 19 and I did not know any other way to quit. I never thought I would quit either. And now, I have been clean from cigarettes and marijuana for a few months! I am now reading Destined To Reign and I am happy and serving the Lord.

I am so thankful that no matter what, the blood of Jesus always covers me. I do not want to go back to cigarettes, marijuana, alcohol, or any drug, ever. These things were just temporary fixes, but My Jesus, my Lord and Savior, He is my permanent fix. He has instilled this new desire in me to read my Bible. It’s now the one book I can’t do without. I love reading it every day.
