I didn’t grow up in a Christian home, but I learned how to pray from my aunt. Whenever I encountered something bad, praying would bring me a sense of peace and my situation would improve.

When I went to college, I was introduced to a prayer group in the hostel. However, their prayer sessions made me feel uncomfortable. As a result, I started to fear God instead of experiencing His love for me. Once, a friend from the prayer group suggested that I get baptized in order to be saved. But I was afraid, believing that if I got baptized and did not read the Bible twice a day, something bad would happen to me.

I eventually stopped going to the prayer sessions. However, I continued telling God that I wanted to be baptized out of a sense of His love and not out of fear.

After I completed college, my fears toward God continued to increase. I would sleep late because I was afraid of the dark and was worried that something bad would happen to my loved ones. I became lazy, angry, and depressed. However, in the middle of all those struggles, I continued praying to God.

A year later, I found out that my sister was attending church and I asked if I could attend church with her. I soon discovered that her church preaches the grace of God, and I liked what I was hearing.

My sister also told me that she had been baptized. I was very surprised and asked her if she read her Bible daily. I still thought that getting baptized meant that you would then have to follow all the Ten Commandments, read the Bible twice a day, and not commit any sin. My sister told me she reads her Bible and also Pastor Joseph Prince’s Daily Grace Inspirations on his ministry website daily. She suggested that I read his devotionals too.

So I started reading Pastor Prince’s Daily Grace Inspirations and even watching his videos online. It has been a few months since and I can see a lot of changes in me.

I used to pray long prayers thinking that if I prayed “wrongly,” something bad would happen to me. Now, my prayers are short and sweet, and I enjoy quality time with my heavenly Father. I also got baptized on October 2, 2015.

Not only that, I am now going to bed early, happy, and assured that Jesus is with me and is taking care of all my worries. I am no longer afraid to sleep at night, no longer feeling nervous or tense about everything, and am very much confident in Jesus’ finished work at the cross for me. I know I can just rest under the shadow of His mighty wings. Anger and fears that held me captive in the past have also been removed completely from my life.

I am even reading the Bible daily, not because of the law or fear of falling out of favor with God. I read the Bible daily because of the lovely quality time I get to enjoy with my heavenly Father. I also partake of the Holy Communion three times a day, and have been healed of a pimple problem. My face is now clear and bright.

Once, my younger sister had rashes and the doctor diagnosed her with thyroid problems. I prayed a little prayer for her the next day, believing that she had been healed of the thyroid condition. That same day, I took her for another thyroid test and the result showed normal thyroid levels.

God is good all the time. He is the Alpha and the Omega. He is my loving Father. I thank God for turning my life around—from fearing Him to tangibly experiencing His everlasting and infinite love for me. I feel like I’ve started living a whole new life spiritually guided by Him, instead of being bound under religious rituals that only bring fear.
