Unharmed After Car Rolled on Dark Winding Hill Road
I was driving home alone one evening from a hill I like to frequent. The road has no lights, and it’s quite winding, but I have driven on it so many times.
I was going around a bend and drifted too far from the center of the road. My wheel fell into a gutter, clipped something, and my car rolled. The moment it stopped, and I realized what had happened, I remember seeing smoke and panicking. But the thought of Psalm 91 overwhelmed me. I don’t remember what I was saying. I only remember blurting out the name of Jesus, with the picture of His feathers coming to mind.
I felt myself thrown into action. I unbuckled the seatbelt without issue and climbed out through the “roof,” which was now the passenger door. It was too heavy to push open at first, then suddenly, it was practically flung open for me.
The accident happened a couple of meters away from the turn into a restaurant. That night, they happened to be open, so I went in for help because I didn’t have my phone on me. They called the police, set me down by the fire, and brought me hot cups of tea. The group that walked in for their reservation happened to include a doctor. What a blessing. They asked me some questions, but it was obvious that I was unharmed.
As I sat there, rattled and drinking my tea, I recited Psalm 91 and 23 to myself. There was a single, absolutely tiny drop of blood on my thumb that I remember staring at. I later thought about how I had landed on the driver’s door, which was covered in smashed glass, and had to get up from it. After a checkup at the hospital, I only had neck stiffness and that small drop of blood on my right thumb.
Later, I watched 2 policemen try to open the door I had climbed out of. It took both of them to open and hold it for a third officer to climb in and get my documents. I truly believe God’s angels held it open for me. There was nothing serious about the smoke either.
Praise the Lord. Thank You, Abba.
