I was addicted to smoking cigarettes for thirty years. I tried everything I could to quit but to no avail. Finally, I opened wide my heart to the Lord and told Him I could not break the addiction on my own.

I knew smoking was bad for my health. I also knew I was in Christ even in the midst of my struggle. But I was still living in bondage to my addiction. So I asked the Lord to meet me at my level of faith and help me with my unbelief, and He did.

The next morning, I woke up and saw myself as a completely different person—someone who did not smoke anymore. I knew I smoked before, but in my mind, it was as if that was somebody else. I hadn’t realize then that the addiction had remained because of the way I saw myself—I had continually regarded myself as a smoker instead of the righteous person that I was in Christ.

It’s been months since I had a cigarette. I have not experienced any strong cravings or withdrawal symptoms. I even had the most amazing sense of peace during the first three days without cigarettes!

Whenever Satan tries to tempt me, I just tell him to get behind me and I declare him defeated and powerless under my feet. I’VE BEEN SET FREE!
