Experiencing the Power of the Gospel for Granddaughter
My husband and I had a ministry in Brooklyn, and we've both been preaching for over 25 years. I love sharing the Word of God, but there was always an undercurrent of condemnation.
We were excited to introduce people to Christ, but it felt like we used grace to bring them in, only to switch to the law to keep them. And while I loved sharing about the Lord, I noticed a lack of excitement about the gospel. Deep down, I felt there had to be more.
Ten years ago, a friend introduced me to Pastor Joseph Prince. I decided to listen to one of his messages, and at first, I was taken aback. I had never heard anyone preach like that. One day, as I tuned in to one of his television broadcasts and watched, I was being transformed. It was as though the Holy Spirit gave me understanding and opened my eyes. For the longest time, I was saying, “Where has the gospel been all my life?” It’s so exciting!
In 2016, my daughter was pregnant with our first grandchild, Amiyah. She was born prematurely at 23 weeks and weighed only 1 pound and 3 ounces. So, she had to stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for 4 months. One day, we received a scary call from the hospital. Our granddaughter wasn’t doing well—she had 3 different bacterial infections and double pneumonia.
On our way to the hospital, my daughter was crying. I looked at her and said, “Your daughter is going to be fine. She’s going to come out of this hospital alive and well.” I just believed it. When we got to the hospital, the atmosphere was tense. The medical team shuffled around, working on Amiyah’s tiny body that was full of tubes. There didn’t seem to be much hope for her survival.
Earlier during the call, the hospital told us that Amiyah’s oxygen saturation level (O2 sat) was dangerously low, between the high 30s and 40s, when it should have been in the 85 to low 90s range. My husband and I partook of the Holy Communion. By the time we got to the hospital, her numbers had risen to the 70s. We stood outside the ward, waiting and believing, and we saw the numbers climb higher and higher. By the time the doctor came, they were in the 90s.
The doctor said they hadn’t seen numbers like that all day. She asked about our faith and I said, “We believe in Jesus, and we knew she was going to be all right.” Amiyah’s O2 sat had climbed to the 90s and never went back down.
Although my husband and I felt a little shaken inside when we first got the disturbing news, we dismissed it, standing on what we knew: that Jesus Himself took our infirmities, and bore our sickness and disease, according to Isaiah 53:4–5 and Matthew 8:17. He did it for my granddaughter too.
Today, Amiyah is in the third grade and is healthy and strong. She is a lot of fun, loves to draw, and loves to have a good time. She loves her friends and her family, and she is a big, wonderful handful.
We are grateful for a gospel that leaves no room for doubt. It’s been almost 10 years since I started listening to Pastor Prince’s messages, and my life has been transformed through the teachings of this ministry.
I know God wants me and my family healed, and knowing that helped me to continue standing firm on His promise. I know that healing is not some promise we’re hoping we’re going to get—it’s part of the finished work at the cross. Not only can Jesus do it, but He’s willing. And I knew He was willing to heal my granddaughter. He is faithful, and I’m just grateful for the gospel!
