Defrauded Amount Fully Recovered by Meditating on the Word
I had major water damage in my house that forced me to leave my home for more than 3 months. During this time, Daddy God gave me so much favor. A friend let me stay in her apartment for 3 months. I also found a good contractor who would restore my home, and the work was progressing at a good pace.
My contractor had asked me to make a payment. Based on this request, I initiated a wire transfer of $36.6k. I received a call from my bank the next day (a Friday) to confirm the banking information and to release the wire transfer. Later that day, I felt prompted to text my contractor and ask if his company had received the money. His response was, “No, we haven’t shared our banking information with you yet.” That’s when I realized I had been scammed.
I called my bank immediately and reported that the money I sent was to a fraudulent account. But since it was around 6 p.m., their fraud department had already left for the day. I also called the receiving bank but was told that since I wasn’t their customer, they couldn’t help stop the wire transfer. They told me to email a general mailbox, but I never received a response.
My first reaction was, “I should have seen the red flags. How did I miss it?” But then I stopped and reminded myself, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus (Rom. 8:1)." I made a mistake, but my God will take care of me.
This incident happened exactly 2 months after the major water damage in my house. On the day my home was flooded, the Lord reminded me of the story of King Jehoshaphat, when the enemy came to attack him and the Lord said, “The battle belongs to the Lord. You will not need to fight.” Since I had been meditating on that, I declared, “Ok Lord, the battle belongs to You for this fraud as well.”
The next day was a Saturday, and I called the receiving bank again. I got the same answer—they couldn’t help me. I went to my bank branch to report the incident again. That day, I discovered that my contractor’s email account had been hacked. For at least a week, the hacker had been facilitating email communication between me and my contractor, altering some of the content.
On Sunday morning, my heart was heavy. While serving at church, I asked my GRC church family to pray for me, without disclosing the issue. How awesome it is to have a church family that stands in faith with you during challenging times! In the afternoon, some of my family were visiting, and one of them prayed before leaving. As soon as she finished, I said, “We have a God who snatches from the jaws of the lion.” My family didn’t understand the context, but they agreed and said amen.
That night during my quiet time, I asked the Lord, “Please remind me of a Bible story similar to my situation right now.” The Lord led me to the story in 1 Samuel 30, where David and his men had returned home to find their families stolen. David asked the Lord what to do, and His answer was, “Go after them, and you will surely recover everything that was taken from you” (1 Sam. 30:8). I said, “Thank You, Lord. This is the Word You’ve given me. This is my answer.”
I wrote this verse in my notebook and meditated on it day and night. During the day at work, whenever I remembered the issue, I would say, “Surely you will recover all.” I didn’t know how or when the Lord would do it, but I was certain it would be recovered, because that’s what His Word said.
The following week, I met with my branch manager at the bank. She told me that technically, from the bank’s perspective, it wasn’t fraud since the bank had confirmed the account information with me. However, she said they were still trying to request that the wire transfer be returned. This was Wednesday. In the natural, the money was gone. As I was leaving, I told the manager, “Don’t worry, my God will fight my battles.” She said, “You have big faith.”
As I meditated further on the Word, I realized the Lord told David, “Go after them.” So I asked Him to show me how, and He led me to do some research and to contact a few government agencies. By the end of week 2, after doing everything I could, I told the Lord, “I’ve done all I know to go after them. Now I’m done. You take it from here.” That evening, I rested from looking into the situation and cast all my cares onto the Lord.
On Tuesday of the third week, the receiving bank called me. The call itself wasn’t helpful, but I thanked God that at least they were aware of the situation. Two days later, on Thursday, I happened to check my bank account, and to my surprise, the money had been returned the day before! Hallelujah! Praise Jesus! I recovered all that was taken from me. My Jesus fought my battles and snatched the money out of the jaws of the thief.
As for my house, the restoration and renovation were completed in exactly 5 weeks—grace upon grace. The Lord gave me favor with my insurance adjuster to release the funds quickly. He also gave me favor with my contractor and site project manager, and the work was completed ahead of schedule. I have now moved back into my newly renovated home. What was meant for my harm, the Lord Jesus turned around for my blessing.
During that time, the Lord also put it on my heart to do major upgrades in my home. I felt Him asking me, “What else do you want? Do it.” So I did the upgrades exactly as I wanted, and the Lord provided the financing.
I am so grateful for Pastor Prince’s ministry. My life has been transformed by his teachings over the last 15 years. Had it not been for the grace message and the Word sown into my heart, these past months would have been much harder. But the Lord had prepared me to walk in peace and joy in the midst of a crisis. I love what Pastor Prince says: “Christ is in the crisis.”
I am blessed to be planted in GRC, surrounded by pastors, leaders, and my church family who prayed with me and stood in faith during these difficult months. I am so thankful to be a daughter of this house. All glory to the Lord Jesus!
