Delivered from Fear of Surgery, Experienced Speedy Recovery
In 2017, I woke up one morning unable to turn my head. The day before, my husband and I had worked hours to unload a large box truck of fundraising items for the elementary school where I served as the Parent Teacher Association president. When I went to the doctor that morning, in tears, I was in unbearable pain and was sent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of my neck. The MRI revealed I had a herniated disc in the C-5 and C-6 vertebrae of my neck.
The call from my doctor informed me that I needed to see a neurosurgeon immediately. With surgery imminent, my fear intensified. The only surgeries I had ever undergone were C-sections for the birth of my 2 sons, who were now aged 11 and 14. Upon meeting the neurosurgeon, I was told I needed to have surgery as soon as possible because the herniated disc was pressing on my spinal cord, and I could be paralyzed any minute. I cried and went home, where I told my sons, and we all cried together. We were all in fear.
As I lay in bed awaiting my surgery in a couple of days, I had a lot of time to think and pray. I had accepted Jesus as my Savior at a young age and knew He was real, but I didn’t understand why something so bad was happening to me when I was trying to do something good.
I was praying, yet afraid. I read my Bible and healing scriptures, but I was still fearful. That’s when I began to look for gospel messages on television that would encourage me. I flipped through many channels before I came across Pastor Prince. He was preaching and explaining the grace of God in a way I had never heard before.
When he explained the power of Jesus’ death on the cross for us and the importance of discerning His body, not lumping the bread and juice together, I cried like a baby. The fear began to fade the more I heard and understood the love Jesus has for us and the power of His death on the cross! My fear turned into faith, and I began to partake of the Holy Communion with the right understanding and assurance of His healing.
My surgery was so successful that the surgeon couldn’t explain my speedy recovery and was amazed! My sons prayed with me daily, and my youngest said he wanted to be a surgeon one day. He will attend college soon and says God hasn’t let the desire leave his heart. He is now on his way to becoming a surgeon.
