No More Burdened by Past, Growing Stronger, Feeling Hopeful

Pastor Prince, I am 60 years old and have been married 3 times.

My first marriage was to a man who cheated on me constantly and abused me physically and emotionally. He did not work and was going round the country drinking and taking drugs. I had 4 kids with him. Eventually, I divorced him.

My second husband was worse than my first. He despised my kids and lured me away from God, my church, my home, and eventually my sense of right and wrong. I became a drug addict and a very bad mother. I consumed methamphetamine daily for over 3 years and did everything he said, fearing he would leave me.

Later, I found out he was cheating on me. He eventually got someone else pregnant and left me. I was crushed. My kids deserted me, and I lost my will to live. I had nothing and ended up living on a monthly state aid of $350 in a small 1-bedroom apartment.

During this time, I was determined to turn my life back over to Jesus. I prayed fervently and began to devour God’s Word, spending every waking moment worshiping, praying, and rejoicing. I partook of the holy Communion, fasted, and prayed. After 2 years, I was ready to go back to church and face people again.

It was then I met my third husband. He had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis that tore into his body with a vengeance. We prayed and partook of the holy Communion together, but he only got worse year after year. I also became physically afflicted with numerous problems like back injuries, diarrhea, and peripheral neuropathy, a condition that caused my nerves to be inflamed and highly sensitized to touch.

I became very ill, was placed on at least 20 different types of medication that affected my breathing and ability to reason. I even accidentally overdosed multiple times. I finally asked the Lord to take me home. I could no longer go on as the pressure was too much for me to bear.

During this time, I watched nothing but Christian television. For 3 days and nights, I laid in bed and listened. I heard your voice, and I felt like I was hearing the gospel for the first time in my life!

I began to search the channels for your sermons. Slowly, I was able to sit up and take nourishment without getting sick. At first, I could only listen to your messages for snippets of time due to the medication I was taking. But as time went by, I was able to listen for longer periods without getting tired. I redirected my beliefs to focus on Jesus, not on my symptoms or situation.

I began to read Proverbs daily and am now studying 3 to 4 different versions of the Bible. I am also devouring every message of yours that I can get my hands on. My financial situation has improved significantly, and I am able to drive again—something I was not able to do for several years because of my nerve condition that made it impossible for me to feel the pedals.

I am alive again, actually for the first time in my life! I have hope, joy, peace, and my health is improving. I partake of the Communion almost daily and am getting physically, emotionally, and spiritually stronger. I now live with the knowledge that I am the righteousness of God in Christ and NOTHING in my past can ever condemn me. I have been given a new lease of life. I am excited for every new day now and can’t wait to see what God is going to do next!
