Freedom from Pornography Addiction After Discovering Gospel of Grace
I was addicted to pornography for many years, from high school through my university years.
When I got saved, I was taught that once you become a Christian, you need to let go of sins such as sexual immorality. I used to feel so condemned because, no matter how hard I tried to break free from this addiction, I simply couldn’t.
Based on what I was being taught, I even started questioning whether I was really saved. I went forward many times during altar calls because I thought I needed to be saved again. I began to believe that God thought I wasn’t serious about Him because of this addiction.
When I started dating my girlfriend at the time (now my wife), I feared this addiction would destroy our marriage. But about a year before we got married, I came across Pastor Prince’s YouTube sermon, “How to Overcome Lust and Temptation.” As I listened, God opened my eyes to the gospel of grace. I was overwhelmed with joy as I received the revelation of the irrevocable righteousness I have in Christ based on His obedience, not mine.
I continued to struggle with porn, but I began to declare while watching that I was still the righteousness of God in Christ because my righteousness is based on His obedience, not mine. I rejected guilt and condemnation, even when I failed.
The addiction lingered for a couple more months, but as I continued listening to more and more sermons on God’s grace, my desire to spend time with Him grew tremendously. I fell deeply in love with Him, and eventually, I completely lost the desire for pornography. I was in awe that an addiction I had struggled with for so many years simply fell away so effortlessly.
I shared the sermons with my wife, and by God’s grace, she also received the revelation of the gospel of grace. We have now been married for 5 beautiful years, keeping our eyes on Jesus instead of ourselves. I also started a podcast where I share the gospel of grace. It has been such a joy to see the Lord changing lives and giving more people the revelation of His grace.
Thank you so much, Pastor Joseph Prince, for your unwavering commitment to preach the gospel. I pray that more and more people will hear the gospel of grace.
